Founded in 1984 by the merge of four different institutes (Economics, Economic Policy, Agricultural Economics, and Political Economy), the Department of Public Economics is one of the oldest Department of the University of Rome “Sapienza”.
The Department has a historically strong vocation for leading-edge research and houses researchers who publish in the top economics journals in the world. It publishes a series of peer-reviewed working papersand has for many years put on a very active seminarseries involving invited speakers doing leading-edge research in a wide range of fields. It also organizes the Federico Caffè’s Lectures, a series of lectures on hot debated issues of contemporary economics.
The Department plays a leading role in economics education at both graduate and undergraduate level and houses a Doctoral School in Economicsand a Master of Art in Public Economics. It is housed on the sixth floor of the Faculty of Economics Building since it was opened and is currently directed by Professor Maurizio Franzini.
